Discipline
As an athlete you represent Beckman High School, yourself, your family, your team and your community. Each athlete is expected to act responsibly at all times. Basic rules of responsibility are as follows:
-
Attend all practices that are scheduled and stay until the end of the practice when the coaches dismiss you (rain or shine). We will have practices during the week, some Saturdays, holidays and during Spring Break. If an athlete is injured, he/she must attend the practice properly dressed. The coaching staff will assign appropriate workouts appropriate to the injury. No athlete will ever be required to do any exercise that would exacerbate an injury. If an athlete is ill but in school at the beginning of 6th period, he/she must attend the practice properly dressed. Appointments, family trips, etc. must be scheduled around the practice and meet schedules. Any exception to this rule must be approved at least 24 hours in advance by the Head Coach and communicated by the parents.
-
Attend all scheduled track & field meets. All athletes must attend these events, even if he/she is injured or ill. Any exception must be approved at least 24 hours in advance. All athletes must wear the entire and proper uniform to these meets. Athletes who are not participating in a meet are needed to help the coaches and to cheer on their teammates.
-
Behave responsibly at all practices, meets, in class, on the bus, etc. Inappropriate language, clothing, attitude will not be tolerated.
-
Be a positive influence to every teammate at all times. We are now one team and must always work to help each other, encourage one another and treat everyone with respect.
-
Take proper care of all equipment and uniforms. Make sure that our practice area is clean after every workout. Do not leave water bottles, paper, etc. as litter.
-
No use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, etc. at any time.
Consequences for rules violations include (but are not limited to):
- Verbal warning
- Detention
- Suspension
- Loss of Varsity Letter and special awards
- Removal from the team (grade “F” in the class)
The coaching staff does not anticipate discipline problems on our Track & Field team. The sport is a highly disciplined sport that requires total dedication and effort at all times in order to meet or exceed goals. We have already seen great leadership and work ethic with our team at this very early stage of the season. We are already building a great sense of pride as a team, which will take us to great heights as the season progresses.
