Varsity Letter Qualification
An athlete on the Beckman Cross Country Team that is eligible to compete can earn a Varsity Letter for the season if one or both of the following standards are met or bettered:
1) If an athlete runs an official time that meets or betters the following qualifying standards for Boys and Girls on one or more of the official 3-mile or 5000 meter courses that the team runs in our official races throughout the season, that athlete will earn a Varsity Letter for the 2009 Cross Country Season.
a) Boys Qualifying Standard: 17:00
b) Girls Qualifying Standard: 20:00
2) If an athlete places in the top seven places by time on our Boys and Girls teams in a minimum of six (6) official season races (not counting the Time Trials), and the following time standards are met in these races, that athlete will earn a Varsity Letter for the 2009 Cross Country Season. The athlete must run the qualifying standard time or better in each of the six or more races that they place in the top seven.
a) Boys Top Seven Qualifying Standard: 18:00
b) Girls Top Seven Qualifying Standard: 22:00
3) An athlete can earn a Varsity Letter at the discretion of the Beckman Cross Country coaching staff if that athlete has shown through dedication, leadership, hard work, team spirit and determination over and above the highest standards for the sport of Cross Country.
The Varsity Letter is a high goal that all athletes can and should strive to achieve. The earned letter is an award that the athlete has earned through hard work, determination, dedication, talent, leadership and team spirit. Be proud of this great achievement.
